Bank of China – Chinatown Branch

Melbourne, Victoria

Spaceos Architects for Bank of China

New branch design within a heritage-listed building

Indirect lighting to continuously illuminate ornate heritage plaster ceiling
Contemporary linear recessed lighting within new infill ceilings
Recessed downlighting and accent wall lighting using Tetra carriage lamps

The interior design included the main banking areas, client-focused VIP meeting rooms, a safety deposit basement vault, and back-office support on all levels. The Lighting Concept provided innovative, stylish, functional solutions which ensured a successful project outcome while celebrating the history of the building.

The project involved extensive building alterations and the addition of a new elevator and stairwell across three levels. Although based on the Bank of China’s global design standards, the client enabled unique applications and variants to meet Heritage Victoria requirements for this unique site, originally built in 1922 as a banking hall.
